British actor hands back his OBE over Britain’s profiting at the expense of indigenous people!

British actor Actor Alan Cumming has returned the OBE he was awarded in 2009 as part of the Queen’s birthday honours list. Cumming said that the death of the Queen and the ensuing conversations about the role of monarchy and the British Empire profited at the expense of indigenous peoples opened his eyes.

He also said that, thankfully, times and laws in the US have changed and the great good the award brought to the LGBTQ+ cause back in 2009 is now less potent than the misgivings he had being associated with the toxicity of empire.

He returned his award and expressed his gratitude for being given it in the first place. OBE stands for Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Alan Cummings starred in the X-Men movies.
