TikTok plans to set daily screen time limit for under-18s – BBC News

Its been described as “the crack cocaine of algorithms”. The addictive quality of TikTok, the chinese-owned video sharing app, has been a source of concern – particularly for children. The app which now has more than a billion users worldwide, many of them in their teens, has now stoop up to take some responsibility.

TikTok has now announced plans to limit use by under 18s to 60 minutes per day. It says the measure will be rolled out in the coming weeks BUT users will have the ability to opt out. This comes as a powerful U.S congressional committee voted to give President Biden powers to ban the app on the grounds it represents a security risk. Of course TikTok vehemently denies this claim.

The TikTok app has been downloaded more than 3 billion times and it draws over 150 million people to it every month across Europe.
